The Early 2011 MacBook Pro's can accept 16GB of RAM, not 8 (Apple only says 8 because there was no 16GB at the time). Yes the boot time is not as fast as a SSD but that is really not a big deal in the day to day performance as most files are small and load into RAM quickly even on a hard drive. With this I avoided the whole SSD + Trim Enabler mess as Apple doesn't enable TRIM by default and it breaks at OS X updates. On Windows I use the free Glary Utilities to optimize/defrag and send large files and many users files to the bottom of the first partition where it doesn't affect Windows or program performance. OS X was cloned to the second partition using Carbon Copy Cloner, it also defrags and does some optimization in the process.

Naturally 10.6 is slower due to the slower sectors, but I don't use it much anymore anyway as Win 7 has way more software and later OS X versions are bloated and turning into iOS more each year. I also 50/50 partitioned the drive, Windows 7 is installed in the first partition and OS X in the second partition (flipped). But what I did do is a 0x-3x secure erase on the entire hard drive, this maps off bad sectors which hinders performance. I can secure erase the hard drive, not the SSD. Left the stock 5,400 RPM, boot time is ~40 seconds with OS X 10.6 or Windows 7, good enough and not worth spending the money for a SSD. Read the helpful sidebar and sticky post before posting! The difference between an "i5" 8250U and "i7" 8550U is less than it might sound like. U-series vs H-series, and 2-core vs 4-core, mean more than Core i5 vs Core i7. Note: Sharp and OLED Samsung panels are true 4K. These have mostly been phased out, but are still present or available in some models. These trick consumers because the listed resolution numbers are the same, but the detail is less, and they produce artifacts. Some laptops that list high resolutions (1440p through 4K) use "PenTile" RG/BW or WR/GB matrix panels instead of RGB/RGB. Many IPS displays are far from perfect still. There may be other concerns too such as colorspace or response times. Many lower priced laptops, even in price ranges were decent displays are available. Many Thinkpads, Latitudes, Probooks with base screen options.

Sometime your graphic memory is overload, seeming how it is only 256MB compared to the 2.2GHz MacBook Pro (MC723LL/A) early 2011 version that has 1GB of graphics memory.

You might want to consider other factors like your graphics memory, in which you can upgrade because it is in the chipset, and harddrive speed. However, most people believe that a slow computer is due to memory, which is a factor but upgrading to 16gigs is only going waste your money, 8GB is plenty unless you plan on running 5 virtual machines all at once, unlikely. Why, not because the machine won't accept it, because it will and if you have a good brand it will work fine and recognize it, even though Apple has clearly stated that it 8Gb is the max.
For all of your wanting to upgrade to 16BG of RAM.
